Viewing Distance Comparison For 65 vs 75 vs 85-inch TVs

We must maintain a certain distance from our TV to our couch for the best viewing experience. We call it the optimal viewing distance for TV, which varies with TV size.

SMPTE recommends a distance where the screen takes up a 30-degree field of view. We recommend this distance for bedrooms and living rooms for mixed usage. This distance can easily be calculated with the following formula.

TV Viewing Distance (inches)= TV Size x 1.6235

Panasonic recommends a 32-degree field of view. We recommend this distance for bedrooms and living rooms for mixed usage. It will provide slightly better immersion than SMPTE distance. We can calculate it as follows:

TV viewing Distance ( inches)= TV Size x 1.5

While THX recommends a 40-degree field of view, we recommend this distance for 4k TVs in media rooms and theater rooms for watching movies to get theater-like immersion and presence.

TV Viewing Distance (inches)= TV Size x 1.2

Price & Features Comparison

Regarding features and pricing, you get what you pay for.

For 65, 75, and 85 inches TV, you can get 4k to 8k  resolutions and any screen type like LED, QLED, or OLED. But we highly recommend you go with 4K because so far you can’t get 8k content on any streaming platform.

When it comes to smart features, you can get smart features in every size. You can get streaming apps, an app store, a media player, a voice assistant, wifi, and Bluetooth.

The only noticeable difference is the price. You can save up to $700-1000 if you go with a smaller size.

But I would suggest going as big if your room and pocket size allows you. The Big screen TVs give you a more immersive and entertaining experience. The research shows that #1 buyer remorse is buying a smaller size TV.

Our Recommendation for 65, 75 & 85 Inches TV

1- TCL QM8/QM850G QLED (65, 75 & 85 -inch TV)

TCL QM8 is a 2023 TV that comes with tons of advanced features. We found that TV performs really well whether you want to watch movies or play games.

The build quality is impressive; the picture quality is also superb. It features high contrast ratios with local dimming that results in great picture quality in the dark.

Since this is a mini-LED QLED TV, high brightness is guaranteed. And in our test, we found the HDR brightness was higher than previous TCL TVs.

The main catch point of the TV is its advanced gaming features. The TV is capable of 240Hz at 1080p, 144Hz at 1440p, and 120Hz at 4k. The response time of the TV is also good.

The only downside of the TV is the slightly less wide viewing angle. But overall it is one of the best TVs.
